Jayson Shaugabay Jayson Shaugabay 5'10" | Forward Warroad | 2023 State MN | Lakeville South | Junior | Forward | Prep Hockey #4 ’23’s
There is no question that Jayson Shaugabay Jayson Shaugabay 5'10" | Forward Warroad | 2023 State MN is the top player in Section 1AA. The Nebraska Omaha commit has scored 13 goals and 28 assists in 20 games so far. His team is once again looking to make a deep state tournament run and they have the tools to do just that once again. The Cougars are heavy favorites in the section, but they still can’t underestimate teams like Lakeville North and Hastings.
Colton Jamieson Colton Jamieson 6'1" | Defense Cretin Derham Hall | 2023 State MN | Lakeville South | Junior | Forward | Prep Hockey #26 ’23’s
Another junior, another top player on this Cougar team. Robbie Clarkowski Robbie Clarkowski 5'11" | Goalie Edina | 2023 State MN is another junior on this Cougar team who is having a fabulous season when it comes to points and is also highly regarded in our Prep Hockey rankings. Willis is tied for second in points on the team with 30. After making a great run to the state championship last season and having a fairly heavy senior class, this Lakeville South team is a bit younger this year, but the same endgame and expectations from last season are still in place for this squad.
Kyle Doll Kyle Doll 5'11" | Forward Lakeville North | 2023 State MN | Lakeville North | Junior | Forward | Prep Hockey #44 ’23’s
Kyle Doll Kyle Doll 5'11" | Forward Lakeville North | 2023 State MN is the top player on his Panther team and another junior having an outstanding season in this 11th grade heavy section. On the season, Doll’s stat line looks like this: 15 goals and 19 assist for a total of 34 points. Kyle has a point in almost every game and his team actually has some pretty solid wins over teams like Prior Lake, Chaska, and Rosemount (2) to name a few. They just haven’t been able to solve Lakeville South in two tries and they will need to figure that out in order to make their first state trip since 2018.
Connor Stoffel Connor Stoffel 5'10" | Forward Hastings | 2022 State MN | Hastings | Senior | Forward | Prep Hockey #70 ’22’s
At last, there is a senior making a huge impact in this section! He is tied in points with his teammate Jake Harris Jake Harris 5'10" | Forward Hastings | 2022 State MN who is also a senior on this team. These two players have created a potent 1-2 punch and Hastings is not a team to overlook. They have a record of 19-2-1 on the season and have some quality wins mixed in. The problem is, the Raiders do not play Lakeville South once again this season, so they aren’t able to get an idea of how they matchup against the #1 team in the section. However, they do play Lakeville North on February 17th, which will be a huge game for both teams going into the playoffs.
Prep Hockey Section Predictions:
Blake: Lakeville South
Carter: Lakeville South
We both pick Lakeville South to win the section and they are the clear favorites at this point. However, there could be some surprises with Lakeville North and Hastings in the mix and this will be an interesting section to watch for sure.
