In this article, I will focus on our Top 5 players and provide an in depth analysis on each. Our Top 5 consists of 4 forwards and 1 defender. Without further ado, let’s dive in!
#5 Teddy Townsend | Forward | Eden Prairie
Teddy is an outstanding talent at Eden Prairie and is a fan favorite as well. Townsend captured his claim to fame even before entering high school when he scored a goal that made Sports Center Top 10. Looking at this season so far, the Sophomore has a solid 30 points. He also had a nice fall season with TDS Transportation of the Elite League, notching 19 points in 22 games. Keep a close eye on this player as he continues his high school career and beyond.
#4 Teddy Townsend Teddy Townsend 5'10" | Forward Eden Prairie | 2024 State MN | Forward | Maple Grove
Teddy Townsend Teddy Townsend 5'10" | Forward Eden Prairie | 2024 State MN of Maple Grove is a player who has always been a top talent in his class. He was a strong player in the very potent Osseo/Maple Grove youth program and is continuing his success with the Crimson this season. So far, Nelson has tallied 9 goals and 9 assists. Before the high school season, Nelson played in the Elite League, where he performed very well, and also clocked in some time with the U.S. National U17 Team. It will be interesting to see where the next couple years bring Danny as Maple Grove has a history of players leaving high school early to play either junior hockey or with the NTDP Program.
#3 Max Plante | Forward | Hermantown
When Max Plante’s brother Zam was out for a big chunk of games, Max helped to keep that first line rolling, even without Hermantown’s best player. Now with Zam back, Hermantown is more dangerous than ever and Max is a leader in that charge. He is tied in the team lead in points with Kohanski with 34 points. Very impressive numbers when you consider the very tough schedule the Hawks play. Max will continue to get better as he matures as a hockey player and who knows, maybe he can turn into a potent player like his brother. Even before playing in his first high school game, Plante made a statement in the Elite League with 18 total points.
#2 Will Skahan Will Skahan 6'3" | Defense St. Thomas Academy | 2024 State MN | Defense | St. Thomas Academy
Will Skahan Will Skahan 6'3" | Defense St. Thomas Academy | 2024 State MN is the Top Defenseman and #2 overall in our Class of 2024 Players Rankings. As a potent shutdown defender, Skahan also provides plenty of offense, tallying 17 points so far in his Sophomore season with the Cadets. Last season, Will played for the Shattuck St. Mary’s 14U AAA team and had a whopping 47 total points. Skahan will continue to be a fun player to keep your eye on and has a bright future in his career through high school and post school.
#1 Drew Stewart | Forward | Benilde-St. Margaret’s
Drew Stewart is having himself another nice season with Benilde-St. Margaret’s, as he leads the team in points with 27. Stewart has earned the #1 spot in the Prep Hockey Class of 2024 Rankings and deservingly so! Drew had a monster fall with Team Twin Cities Orthopedics of the Elite League with a whopping 28 points in 20 games. Stewart is apart of a Red Knights team that is poised to make a state tournament run this season, but will have to get through that tough Section 6AA. Look for Drew Stewart to lead that charge for Benilde as we dive into the section playoffs coming up here.
