The conference this week will be a smaller conference as it is the Mariucci. The Mariucci contains Warroad, East Grand Forks, Moorhead, Roseau, Bemidji, Thief River Falls, Crookston. Today we are covering defensemen that are worthy of recognition in this conference for their returns. This conference has a very solid mix of teams and a very good mix of players. In this article, we are covering the top 2 players that are for sure returning, there is one major one that is not for sure; Trey Ausmus is a player to watch; he is automatically the top player in this conference if he returns. It is up in the air currently if he will return as he is playing with the Madison Capitols of the USHL.
#1 Thor Byfuglien Thor Byfuglien 5'9" | Defense Roseau | 2022 State MN | Defenseman | Class of 2022 | Roseau
Thor is ranked as the 20th best player in the senior class and is the 7th ranked defender. Thor had a super good junior season with 9 goals and 19 assists for 28 points on the year. Thor just made his recent commitment to St. Cloud State. Thor will likely move into the top 15 overall players and within the top 5 defensemen. He is one of the leaders on the Roseau team that returns 2 of the 3 top returning forwards for the conference. Byfuglien is on track for a big year with them, as his playmaking ability will allow him to rack up some good stats especially assists. We are officially on Roseau watch this season.

Carson Reed Carson Reed 6'1" | Defense Warroad | 2022 State MN is just behind Byfuglien in our player rankings at 21 overall and 8th ranked defenseman. Reed had 5 goals and 21 assists last year for 26 total points. Most of his assists were to Shaugabay, who is now most likely coming back to high school hockey- that is big for Reed. Reed’s best game last season was when he had 1 goal and 2 assists against conference foe- Roseau. Reed is currently having a very solid offseason at the elite league as he has 3 goals and 9 assists for 12 points. This league has the best players in high school hockey and Reed is currently making some big waves. Carson Reed Carson Reed 6'1" | Defense Warroad | 2022 State MN will likely go to juniors after his senior season where he would likely pick up a D1 offer there. This is a very huge season for Reed as he is on the brink of being a top-tier player.
