The Central Lakes conference contains Alexandria, Windom, Brainerd, Fergus Falls, River Lakes, St. Cloud, Sartell- St. Stephen, Sauk Rapids-Rice, Willmar. This conference has some really good returning goalies- two are actually ranked in our top 50. In this article, we take a look at the top returning defenseman in this conference, and there are two players that I think are worthy of recognition of the best returning. Let us break it down below highlighting the players and briefly explain why they are the best.
1. Quentin Sigurdson | Goalie | Class of 2022 | Sartell. St Stephen
Sigurdson is the top goalie coming back to this conference this season. He had a major role on his team last year as a Junior and had a pretty solid record of 11-7, with a 2.00 GAA and a .929 SV percentage. There are high expectations for Sigurdson and his team this season. If he can keep his SV percentage around the same number, and improve his GAA his team should in theory be really successful. Sigurdson is currently ranked as our 46th player overall and 9th goalie in the state in the class of 2022. Sigurdson is currently with the NA3HL and is expected to come back to Sartell for his senior year.
2. Ben Condon | Goalie | Class of 2022 | St. Cloud
With a lower sample size last season, Condon had the best GAA and one of the top save percentages. He had a GAA of 1.73, and a SV Percentage of .932. He played against a lot of solid teams last year and put up some impressive performances keeping his team in a lot of games. I would like to see him role increase for his senior season, but with the body of work and stats he put up in his junior year he should be able to push for the top goalie in the conference by the end of the season. Looking forward to see what Condon can do with a bigger body of work in terms of games played.
3. TJ Gibson TJ Gibson 5'11" | Forward Rochester Century | 2023 State MN | Goalie | Class of 2023 | Fergus Falls
TJ Gibson TJ Gibson 5'11" | Forward Rochester Century | 2023 State MN might be criminally underrated at this 3rd place spot for returning goalies, but that shows just how good the goalies are in this conference this season. Swanson is on the best team in the whole conference, and will need to continue to put up the stats the did last year for his team to make a run to state. Last season Swanson had an insane record of 15-4, with a GAA of 2.21 and .909 SV PCT. He lost a game last year to Alexandria where he let up 5 goals on just 25 shots. To rank him higher on the end of season list and on our 2023 player rankings, we would love to see improved consistency. Really good goalie, just want to see him be more consistent. Swanson is currently ranked as the number 34 player and number 6 goalie in the state for the class of 2023.
This conference has the best goalies returning that we have seen so far out of any of the conferences we have covered so far. This conference is very exciting, and we will be back tomorrow with our team predictions.
