After that, we will take a look at the next best junior players that are most likely to be recruited. Here are the three junior committed defensemen and some stats and info about them.
Tristan Sarsland Tristan Sarsland 6'0" | Defense Benilde St. Margarets | 2022 State MN | 6’0 Defenseman | Benilde St. Margarets | #3 Overall
Sarsland is committed to Colorado College and is a really good two way defenseman. At 6-0, he has a lot of range and can be physical at times. Sarsland has 41 career points with 26 assists and 15 goals. Sarsland has had a great career and I can see him sticking around in high school and continue to make his high school stats look better. This is a good player, but Colorado College will likely have him go to play juniors like most colleges have players do. Sarsland has been committed to Colorado since his freshman year in 2019.
Trey Ausmus | 5’11 Defenseman | East Grand Forks | #4 Overall
Trey Ausmus is the top Junior defenseman in ’A’, he has really had a great career so far. Ausmus has 71 career points, including an impressive freshman year where he had 23 points. In his Sophomore year he followed that with 26 points, now this year his junior year he has 22 points. Ausmus is a really good offensive defenseman that is a threat to score from the point. He is committed to North Dakota, and we will see what he does next season with going to juniors or staying in high school. Great high school career for Trey that definitely could be far from over.
Reed Kluender | 5’10 Defenesman | South St. Paul | #8 Overall
Reed Kluender does not have the best stats at all, (3 points this year, 3 last year) but does all the things that do not get featured on the stat sheet. Youthhockeyhub said that he is “a physical, mistake-free defender who takes care of his own zone and plays with an edge”. Reed is committed to the University of Wisconsin and has been since his freshman year where he totaled 17 points. The future is very bright for Reed as he also got drafted by the Des Moines Buccaneers in the USHL draft this past year. Super cool to see a player of this caliber come from a high school that does not produce many players at the next level.
