There are a lot of really good teams at the top this year with defending champ Hill Murray, Eden Prairie, Lakeville South, Maple Grove, and so on. Each week I will be covering who I thought had the best individual performances in HS hockey from across the state.
Top 3 performers
1. Zam Plante | Sophomore | 5-7, 130 lbs Forward | Hermantown High School
The Youth Hockey Hub Bantam Player of the Year award winner comes out of the gates ablaze to start his high school season. Zam finished week one with 5 goals and 5 assists for a total of 10 points in just two games. Zam is one of the best Sophomores in the state, and we see him getting some Division One interest here soon. Zam did get drafted to the Chicago Steel USHL team this past May. This young point machine has started his HS career off scorching. Can he keep it up in week two?
2. Jayson Shaugabay | Sophomore | 5-9, 160 lbs Center | Warroad High School
Another Sophomore from the Northern part of the state starts this year off on a bang and has made a statement. In week one of the season, Jayson finished with 9 points putting him near the top of the state after week one. His 9 points came off 4 goals and 5 assists, Warroad beat TRF 7-1 and Detroit Lakes 6-0. Jayson had a point in 9/13 of his team’s goals. Safe to say Jayson has already stepped up and became this team’s leader.
3. Cam Boche | Senior | 5-11, 146 lbs Forward | Lakeville South High School
Cam Boche is a very impactful player on a team that is expected to make state. In his first week of play, he tallied 8 points in total. In the Cougars opener, they took down Eagan 7-0; Cam had 5 goals in that game alone. In the next game against Eastview, Cam tallied 1 goal and 2 assists. An underrated player on a very talented team showed us that he is ready to help his team make it to state. Cam is currently uncommitted, but I definitely see him committed somewhere by the end of the season if he keeps this up.
