How last season went
In the past few years, the Fire have emerged as a program on the rise that looks capable of knocking off traditional powers such as Eden Prairie and Minnetonka in Section 2AA. It appeared Holy Family might be able to replicate that during the 2019-20 season.
During the season, the Fire played many tight games as they outscored their opponent by .16 goals per game.
Despite a slow start with three losses in four games, Holy Family rebounded to go 6-1 and finish second in the Wright County Conference. Besides conference success, the Fire knocked off teams such as St. Thomas Academy, Elk River and Greenway.
Heading into the gauntlet that is 2AA, Holy Family was the No. 5 seed. The Fire could not keep up with Chaska, which nearly made a trip to Xcel Energy Center for the Class 2A state tournament.
Who’s back and who’s gone
When looking at the Holy Family returning players, there is plenty to like. Trey Fechko, Nick Blood and Ben Reddan are set to return after combining for 42 goals and 44 assists. In net, Dylan Halliwill is set to return after appearing in 24 games and posting a .893 save percentage.
As for the departures, the biggest comes in the form of Lucas Jorgenson Lucas Jorgenson Forward Holy Family | 2020 State MN . He graduated after leading the team with 37 points (5 goals, 32 assists).
What to expect next season
As previously mentioned, the Fire have come to relevance in Class 2A in recent years. With the returning talent, that should remain the same this next season. The biggest question is can Holy Family finally make the jump to Section 2AA champion.
