How last season went
After seven games, the Panthers had a 4-3 record. Though that wasn’t ideal, it was better than what was to come for Spring Lake Park during the 2019-20 season.
The Panthers struggled to a 6-19 regular season record. Part of that struggle came to the fact they allowed 6.88 goals per game. Despite the defensive struggle, Spring Lake Park did pull off wins against Minnehaha Academy and Rochester John Marshall.
When it came to postseason play, the Panthers were the No. 7 seed in Section 5AA. Maple Grove took care of Spring Lake Park as the Panthers saw their season come to a close in the quarterfinals.
Who’s back and who’s gone
Spring Lake Park went through its ups and downs with a young roster. All four of its top leading scorers are set to return. That includes Jacob Fritz (17 goals, 22 assists), Brock Larsen (16G, 21A), Blake Lueck (18G, 17A) and Ben Wackman (4G, 11A).
Aside from those returners, the Panthers are also set to have experience in net. Andy Hjulberg is set to return after 13 appearances. Dewey Bergdahl also appeared in 13 games and is likely back in the Spring Lake Park lineup.
What to expect next season
This squad took its lumps. However, there is a chance to bounce back. Addison DeBoer takes over as head coach with a chance to make a change. This should be a squad to watch with its experience off the ice and newness in the coaching position.
