How last season went
Playing in an annually competitive Big Nine Conference, the Rockets found themselves struggling to keep up throughout the season. That included on the defensive side, where they gave up 4.68 goals per game during 24 regular season games.
The biggest bright spots for Rochester John Marshall came against Austin. Two of the Rockets’ five regular season wins came against the Packers. One of the victories against Austin came amidst the team’s two-game win streak. Rochester John Marshall’s other win in that stretch came against Henry Sibley and helped the team to a 5-19 regular season record.
Like the rest of the Big Nine foes competing in Class 2A, it was bound to be a tough task for the Rockets to make noise in the section tournament. Rochester John Marshall went up against crosstown rival Rochester Mayo in the play-in round of the Section 1AA tournament. The Spartans came through in this battle of Rochester while the Rockets saw their season draw to a close.
Who’s back and who’s gone
Teejay Torgrimson will certainly be missed when the 2020-21 season begins for Rochester John Marshall. He graduates after posting a team-best 32 points (16 goals, 16 assists). Aki Oura also graduates after a 13-point campaign (4G, 9A)
The good news for the Rockets is a pair of scorers who led the way will have a chance to improve their offensive output. That includes Sam Eagen and Sam King. The pair is set to return after combining for 20 goals and 16 assists.
In net, Carson Arthur is also set to have a chance at growth after manning the net for the majority of the season. He finished the year with a .874 save percentage.
What to expect next season
Having experience back in players such as Eagen, King and Arthur is a big plus. However, any improvement takes work. That is especially true on the defensive side for Rochester John Marshall. If the Rockets can clamp things down defensively, some growth should be seen.
