How last season went
The first five games of the 2019-20 season sort of tells the story for the Royals. They opened the season with consecutive wins and followed that up by losing their next three contests.
That trend continued for the rest of the regular season. By mid-February, Rogers finished the regular season with a 12-10-2 record.
By hovering around the .500 mark, the Royals earned the No. 5 seed in Section 8AA. Rogers headed on the road to St. Cloud. That’s where the Royals’ season came to a close as they lost 6-3.
Who’s back and who’s gone
The first two graduating players to look at when examining Rogers’ roster are Cal Levis and Trey Frederickson. They finished in the with the most and second most point totals amongst all Royals’ skaters. Levis finished with 12 goals and 19 assists while Frederickson had 11 goals and 15 assists.
However, the next two leading point getters for Rogers are set to return in Tanner Weis and Miken Miller. The duo combined for 23 goals and 26 assists a season ago.
One place the Royals will have to fill a major hole is in net. Patric Loeffler graduates after posting a 3.38 goals against average and a .890 save percentage.
What to expect next season
Playing in the Northwest Suburban Conference’s West Division along with competing in Section 8AA leaves Rogers with an uphill battle on an annual basis. If the Royals want to be in a spot where they can compete with the Moorheads or St.-Michael-Albertvilles of the world, they are going to need players such as Weis and Miller to take a big step next season.
