Continue ReadingWith most sports on hold and the 2020-21 season still months out, it’s time to take a look at teams from all over the State of Hockey and examine what happened this past season and what’s ahead. The first team we’re breaking down is Tartan.
1. How last season went
The Titans had their ups and downs during the 2019-20 season. Tartan played a tough schedule and pulled off some big wins, including one against eventual Class 1A state champion Mahtomedi and a tough Thief River Falls squad. Heading into the postseason, the Titans appeared to have some momentum but the Zephyrs extracted some revenge and ended Tartan’s season.
2. Who’s back and who’s gone
The biggest loss for the Titans appears to be Marshall Ahn. He graduates after registering a team-best 30 points (12 goals, 18 assists). The majority of Tartan’s top scorers look like they will be back in the Titan lineup this winter. That includes Bo Strecker (14G, 10A), Jonah Roberts (8G, 13A), Easton Strecker (4G, 14A). Jack Cashin is set to return as the Titans’ top goaltender after playing the majority of the minutes this season. He finished with a 2.89 goals against average and a .902 save percentage.
3. What to expect next season
The Titans showed they are a team that can keep up with some of their tougher foes in the East Metro. The hope seems to be many of these returning players can take a step forward next season. The biggest hurdle for Tartan is the strength of the teams around them, whether it’s Mahtomedi or Gentry Academy, the Titans will most certainly earn any success they garner next season.
